What brand of petfood do you feed your dogs? How about snacks? Why do you favor a particular brand?

My dogs eat Hill's Science Diet. I recommend it to my clients because I know their quality is always good. However, for those who don't want to pay for a premium food, I recommend anything but Ol' Roy!

Good hunting,

Andy

I have always used eiither Iams/Eukanuba or more recently Hills Science Diet. Quality and consistency. Look at the ingredients and nutrional info on the package.

I have had Labs and their coats always look great and they are in good condition. The only reason I recently switched from Iams/Eukanuba was that my old Lab had an attack of pancreatitis and it was suggested to reduce her fat intake as low as possible and Science Diet light had the lowest fat % of the premium brands.

Can't go wrong with either one. My brother is a DVM and former Chief of Staff for the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine. He has always used Science Diet for his dogs, but vets and vet students used to get Science diet practically for free years ago. However, he can feed his dogs anything and he always feeds Science diet.

When I was in veterinary school, we got Science Diet for free. I knew/know it was a marketing ploy, but after seeing the results of several comparative feeding trials and after 24 years of using it, I can confidently say that Science Diet works as advertised. There are other premium brands that are equal, but no other company beside Hills does as much R&D or quality control. No other company furnishes such a wide range of prescription diets formulated to address the nutritional demands of different disease conditions, either.

That being said, I love their products, but don't care much for the way Hill's conducts their business...but that's another subject.

Good hunting,

Andy

Purina Pro Plan Performance during hunting season. In summer Purina Pro Plan. I was always told to make sure chicken is the first ingredient and rice instead of corn the second. Eukunuba and Pro Plan fit this, a lot of others do not.

It seems to work good and breeder and trainer recomended it.

For snacks I use Bil-Jac liver treats my dogs fav.

Pro Plan Performance is some of the best, if not the best for hard working dogs or lactating bitches.

Mutton or chicken meal is a high quality protein source - better than some cheap tallows. Rice is better than corn. So digestibility in such a mix runs around 88%.

Bonnie working dog is my favorite. 100% kangaroo meat. The company has been bought out by purina who market their own stuff under the Bonnie name, but the "Bonnie Working Dog" is the good stuff.

This months "Shooting Sportsman" has a good article about feeding working dogs.
I feed Eukanuba 30/20 all year because we hunt test and train all year. If you don't train all year you can get off the 30/20 after hunting season.
