Is there a dog that would make a good tracker dog for wounded animals and also would go into holes/caves to flush/get predators?

Yep this one for a smallish dog. Ridgeback for a medium one.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Find a jagd out of hunting stock. Train it to do what you want it to do. They will blood trail ,go to ground, bay up an animal, and fight anything that needs fought and held. Just make sure that the parents and hopefully grandparents have been hunted. They also make a wonderful watch dogs as nothing gets by them. My jagd Trudy has been a loyal companion and partner for 14 years and she is slowly slipping away. Good luck in your search. Jerry Hoover

Jagds are wonderful hunting dogs but, IMO, they are hard core and not for every situation. I would recommend a Deutsch-Drahthaar from a VDD (German) registered kennel. I have tracked many deer with mine, often hours after the shot. They are sharp on small predators (coon, fox, coyote) but will sensibly bay up bear. They make excellent dogs for upland and waterfowl hunting as well. You will be hard pressed to find a better family dog, however, not all DD are protective if that is a need.

Also Westfalen terriers are amazing little beasts and in my opinion make for better hunters than Jack Russell terriers not to mention they are a whole lot calmer. We're using them in Namibia more and more. But you have to keep them on a lead or a shoulder carrier as the Germans do as they will run till they drop. They simply do not give up.

But my field companion is still a Rhodesian.
