Hi Guys

I am looking for information on the Lee brothers and if possible pictures of some of their original blood stock.
I have Red Tick hounds that originally were fromimported stock from the Lee's.
I am interested to find out if there are pictures around that I could see to compare to what I now have.

The dogs are top pig dogs and have accounted for over 4000 pigs in 28 years of hunting.

We also have some imported canadian blood blue ticks that are our best nose dogs.

Looking forward to chatting with some of you guys who may have had some experience with the Lee's dogs over the years

Ian

Hi Raven
Would you possibly have a title.
I found a few references to them but have not come up with the book.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ian

sorry, I had a copy yrs ago
lost in a move or loaned/not returned.
took their dogs to South America and chased
jaguar and puma.
wish I could be more help.
Wouldn't think there would be "many"
books about the Lee's.
Location says SA. What "pigs" are you chasing there with dogs?

Hi Raven
Bushpig,and lots of them.
With a year round supply of food these pigs just breed flat out.

Run a pig pack of 9 Redtick and bluetick hounds at present.
We are hunting again on Thursday, will post some pics of what we get.

Also have a pack of Lynx/Leopard hounds.

We are in southern Natal but hunt right through to Northern natal. Also do big 5 and few mini 10 specialist hunts.
Nothing beats the pigs though, pure adrenalin.
Have you hunted SA before?
Ian

Didn't think about "crop raiding bush pigs"
I like the idea of Leopard hounds.
I havn't hunted SA and in fact just
returned from my 1st trip to africa in Oct.
Zim was good to me.Not sure when I'll get
to return to Africa.Sweetheart has some dreams too.
Will look around and see if I can find a name.
Love to see some leopard pics.

Hi Raven
Glad you have had your first taste of Africa
Zim is great. Really one of the best Safari destinations in terms of value.
You can hunt more game for your money in SA but wilderness is just magical.
We hunt Zim, Namibia and Mozambique in addition to some great places in SA.
If you shop around there are places in SA that are close to what you will hunt in Zim experience wise.
We have 28 years in the Safari business and as such have access to the top hunting areas in the country.
Have a look at our photos on the website and it will give you an insight into what we do.

My hounds are smoking hot at the moment, we hunt again on Thursday for pigs so really looking forward to it. Will send some pics of what we get

Many thanks for the kind words.
Buff hunting is too much fun.
Leopard with hounds has to be
the same kind of fun.
I chase all of N.A. game. From
Alaska- old Mexico.Guiding hunters
for nearly 25 yrs.
I'll make it back, some day.
Keep me posted to your travels
and I'll return the favor.

Raven
Looking forward to hearing more of your hunting adventures.
I will gladly do the same.

I have always wanted to come over to the US and Canada and hunt for a year. Mostly want to live off the land and go as far North as I can and as far South as I can. Fly in hunts and country back roads have huge appeal to me.

Really want to hunt a Grizzly, Moose, Elk, Carribou, Whitetail and one of your sheep. Also keen to follow some of your hounds for Lynx and Lion.

One day when things are good I will come on over.
Chat soon and thanks for the welcome
Ian

I have the book.....in MINT condition. Life of the Greatest Guide.
I ALSO HAVE SOMETHING MUCH, MUCH, MUCH BETTER.
I HAVE ABOUT THE ONLY ORIGINAL COPY OF CASSETTE TAPES DALE LEE HIMSELF MADE. Probably 36 hours of listening. He talks non-stop about EVERYTHING. Dogs, clients, hunting, locations, etc. etc.
IF you are interested.....send me a PM. I had two dogs out of original stock. Redticks. Absolutely the best bear / lion dogs you could ever hope for.
Lots of pictures.........and MANY OTHER hound books impossible to get.

I was lucky enough to hunt with Dale Lee once when I was a kid. I grew up on a ranch in the Chiricahua Mountains which is where Dale grew up. He had a client there hunting lions and I was trapping in the same area he was hunting. I went with him one day to point out where my traps were.

Hey Brennan

Thanks for getting back to me with all the info and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. This time of year I hardly touch sides with hunts etc and a baby on the way
I will be in contact to learn more about my hounds.
Do you have any pics you could post or will email be easier for you?
Cheers

Would any of you know where the remaining blood stock of the Lee hounds went to? I am looking to import a fresh dog to breed my hounds to.
Any help would be great.

Thanks

Ian......since I consider you a friend, let me be very honest with you. The Lee brothers, Dale and Clell.......bought, sold, traded, exchanged, interbread, loaned out, and basically FLIPPED hounds faster than a bunny in the bushes!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, you can bet your old grandma, when they raised or traded for a 'money' dog, as we call them.....meaning, a hound that is basically a 'one dog pack', meaning when that hound takes the track, in about 90% of the cases that bear or lion is CAUGHT. They kept and interbred that hound. But realistically.....any good hounds hunting days are very limited, maybe you get 6-7 good years, then you are onto the next generation. And the pack is being changed and rearranged every week or month.
So........what I am trying to say is that the concept of 'Original Stock' old line Lee dogs holds about as much water as an old wooden bucket with holes in it.
Do I think I had some original stock Lee dogs? Well hell yes........any of us hound men want to think that! But good common sense, experience, and years and years of hunting lions and bears tell me different. The truth of the matter is...........please do not get mad at me............There IS and WAS no such thing as old line original Lee brothers hounds. I had some good looking, great hunting, good treeing, loud mouth, fast, cold nose redticks that looked like the Lee dogs, and basically came from the EXACT same part of the county where Dale lived and hunted....and was told to me that.....HELL YES.......these are original Lee stock hounds. But my dear friend, I was not born yesterday, I KNOW THE TRUTH OF HOW DALE AND CLELL MADE A LIVING, Hound flipping (like property flipping) was a good quick way to make a few bucks when needed.
And, in general.....when someone offered you way more $$$$ than a hound is worth......you sell the damn thing. They were tools, just like your bakkie.
Dale has been dead for many a years, and unless you went to Arizona, shook hands with him, looked at his pack, heard the history for youself, etc. etc. You are being sold a bill of goods that "These are Original Dale Lee hounds", from those famous old hounds.
And.......unfortunately, YOU KNOW I am telling you the truth. Wish is weren't so. Wish my good hounds were really Lee dogs. Wish I had that long ago history behind my hounds. Wish we could sit down and talk together. B
