You're right, that is a really nice pedigree! If I didn't have 800 dogs right now, I'd call (well, I exaggerate, but my house is full). Pedigree goes back to some very nice older stuff, too.

One of the better pedigrees, saved the sperm of the sire for 20 years till the right female came along which it didn't so we bought the female
which was luck since I have a friend who is a field trial trainer and he hooked me up to this breeder

The saved semen makes sense. I wondered how you reached back that far. I have a Golden with a similar story. His dad was a Mighty Mo son, with semen saved for 20 years. His siblings have placed in All Age stakes but Roy just can't see those long birds as well as he needs to for the big stuff. But I like him anyway. I love those dogs from the past, and when they show up now its special.

I've two Labradors with NFC to Canadian FC (sister to Canadian NFC) that I really like, but their parents are still alive.

You did pretty darn good looking at that pedigree.

Pedigree is far less important then the trainer.

I have seen mutts out preform highly papered dogs in the hunting field.

Because they had better training.

I may have oversimplified my situation, when we first collected the semen we where very selective on breeding. A pro trainer that we provided a couple of straws to didn't follow our instructions on the insemination procedure and he decided to by pass surgical procedure and as a result no pregnancy. Breeding in this manner is quite expensive on both ends since I incurred the collection expense and yearly storage fees. My wife kind of handles that end and we where in no hurry to use the semen since we had 4 dogs I told her if we couldn't find the correct female we would buy a high end female for our own breeding. Our vet advised to do a breeding with another male to determine if the female would have a litter. At the time I had another male of equal quality working on his Finished tiled which we bred to, 12 pups where born several have achieved titles including MH so the female and male was passing on their genes. That is when my world turned upside down, 5 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer went through 4 months of radiation which put the cancer in submission. The radiation treatment unfortunately has some bad effects which strips you of energy forces you to stay out of the sun which is impossible to due since training to keep a dog at high level requires months of training them. 3 years ago I was required to get both of my knees replaced went through the first and it stopped the pain but I am limited as to what I can do so much I will hold off on the other till the injections don't work. As far a high dogs and their pedigree being a road to greatness I would not be doing what I have done if I wasn't a believer. It is the best insurance for getting a sound dog that will be around for a long time. I have had a few dogs that I was competing and hunting that could not make the grind of competition since high level competition is for only the best of the best, The retriever competitions involve 10 of thousands retrievers either with amateur or professional trainers/handlers and less than 100 retrievers qualify for the nationals and 130 or so for the national amateur championship and only one dog get the title per year, so perfection is mandatory.
The cost of breeding to these high level dogs is through the roof and it is what keeps the best blood lines in tact. I trained with high level field trial trainers and I was told if you think this is expensive try horse competition. As far as "average pedigree dogs for breeding, you can get good hunting dogs but all you can do is breed them to other average dogs since most high level dog owners will only breed to qualified sires or females.

Radiation does knock your socks off, and knee replacements are no fun. You and I have somewhat similar health histories apparently. I sincerely hope the cancer is in complete remission! Mine is. And I do love my fake knees. FWIW, any amateur thinking they will make money dog breeding with less than an NFC or NAFC or similar titles from the hunt test realm is dreaming. We do it just to get the dog we want, not to make money because we are too busy spending it. I still think that pedigree is pretty spiffy. I hope you're healthy and stay so!
