Yesterday I brought home two 7 w/o female choclate labs. I've trained three German Wirehaired Pointers, two with outstanding results and one with satisfactory results, using Dick Wolters' book. They will only be used on pheasant as I'm not a waterfowler. Who has the best book and/or videos? My dad told me once that if you're gonna kill a rattler with a chainsaw, use the top of the bar.

I've read a bunch. Game Dog, also by Wolters, was the most straight-forward. I had very good results with it, and you start off with drills right away. It has some of the waterfowling stuff in it as well as the upland training, but some of it is dual-purpose (i.e. sit-stay-heel, following a line to retrieve, etc). By the way, congratulations. I love labs. Steve

I like the Tri-Tronics book by Jim and Phylis Dobbs. Even if you are never gonna use an E-Collar their pupy stuff is great.

Thanks skl1, Glad to know Wolters wrote that book. I picked it up the other day and started reading - and doing what it says. Both pups already go bonkers when they see the dummy after only three days! I'll try to keep ya'll posted on their progress and maybe post some pics as they go along. Wolters also did a video to go with the book. If you can find one, they are excellent as well. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

Here's my latest I had her mother and her grandfather. I use "Water Dog" do to all my training. This gal is the product of one of Duck's Unlimited Dog of the Year's puppies. My buddy won the pup at the SHOT show some year's ago at a duck call maker's booth. She's greased lightning!

Here's a couple of more pics This is the mamma dog. Her name is Dal, short for Dalhart. She was conceived in the middile of a goose decoy spread on a hunt in Dalhart, Texas. Her Pappa was "Bounce" who came from some great lines with dogs like "Super Chief", "Super Powder" (Bounce's grandfather). I have the pedigree all the way back to the 1920's with dogs like "Ironwoods Cherokee Chief" and "Cherokee Chica"......Too many to name that are in the Retriever Hall of Fame. San Joaquin Honco etc............. Dal and Beaute, her pup. Beaute is the dog who's photo is in the last post. I love looking at photos of dogs as well. Have you been to http://www.working-retriever.com/ I think this is the address. It's a great site; go to the Retriever Hall of Fame page. It's great to see the pics and read the stories of the best dogs in trial history!
