Looking at getting a dog mostly for fun but want it to be protective as well. I am looking at boxer, dogo argentina, and a american bulldog? Which would you choose and why? Thanks Esox357.

well the mix of german shephard and black lab has always been hard to beat i currently have an australian shephard lab mix and a pitt and golden retriever mix he is interesting but gonna become great dog

the shephard lab mix has always been family friendly but also protective special if you have kids mine made a state trooper jump over hood of his car dukes of hazzard style to get back in car but the officer didn't realize he was inbetween the dog and the kids so dog put him in proper place

Get a Toller, their howl will keep anyone at bay.

You don't say if you want to hunt with the dog as well, but if you do, I'd suggest either a Large Munsterlander, a VDD, a GWP, or a Chesapeake Bay Retreiver.
JMHO, but any of those dogs will hunt, and some have more 'intimidation' factor than others...
With any of them, they bond closely to 'family' and will protect family from outsiders.

If you don't need a hunting dog, then an Australian Cattle Dog will propably do the trick for you. They tend to be a bit on the protective side.

Cheers, Dave.

sambar 9.3 is on the right track chessies are great hunters and great family dogs and would gladly give their life to protect their families. The blue heeler (Australian stock dog) would be a great choice also extremely loyal and probably too smart for their own good.i had them growing up on a ranch in Montana. and now have a chessie and two springers.
