Buck is enjoying himself and loves hunting. Flushed two grouse along a trail for me yesterday.

Yep, thanks! Buck and I have had fun pheasant hunting this year. We made a few trips out in southern Minnesota near my hometown on public land and he flushed birds every time. Our most recent hunt was on Christmas Eve and cold (-3F with 15 mph wind), and the only bird he flushed was a lone hen pheasant.

This was the first bird he got with me, a rooster shot on public land the day after Thanksgiving.

He loves working the fields and is gaining more confidence. We haven't seen too many birds this year but it has been a lot of fun watching Buck progress and happily do his job.

Cold temps and snow don't seem to bother him one bit. He loves playing in the parks when we have them to ourselves in the evening.

Thanks fellas! Juan I've had Buck for over 10 months now, I am looking forward to spring but he is enjoying the winter weather.

He doesn't look very happy there but was having lots of fun on the lake with Hobie, the big Shepherd/Akita: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQd85mFKjSw

Un dia, Juan. I would love to visit South America again, next time for hunting.

Almost 15 months after adopting him, Buck is up to a healthy 65 lbs.

I just moved to a new apartment over the weekend and he is settling down at the new place really well. A relief. The tenant below us and landlord is another bird hunter and has a great little cocker spaniel, so Buck now has a buddy and hunting partner at home.

He is one happy happy dog.

Dont get too hung up on the dogs weight.Yours is not thin , nor is he fat. You will see far more grossly obese labs than thin ones.
My black lab male is one that wont put weight on, yet he is not too thin either. His neutered chocolate bitch companion , however , is real difficult to keep thinner. Might just be a girl thing ;-)

Been two years since I got Buck now, and he continues to be a fantastic dog at 3 1/2 years of age now.

Thanks again for the advice I got here!

We currently have three dogs in the house that we adopted from our local shelter. They are wonderful pets and we love them dearly. The latest one is an English setter who was previously owned by a retired game warden, and seems to have been well-trained for hunting. My knees are not what they used to be, but I do get him out for birds on occasion. Last spring, I took him to a local preserve. They put out eight chukars for us, and he pointed and held them all for me. I had one of my best days ever shooting, and got all eight (two on the second shot). Here is a photo of Mugs with his eight birds, all of which he retrieved for me.

Mugs is my buddy. We take naps together.

Most of my money I spent on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted
