Here is me and our beagle before setting out into the forest.

Our Beagle is coming around realy nicely. She is well muscled and has a high hunting drive. She is interested in all kind of game and even bayed on a capercaille the other day Smiler Hoping to get her steady on hare, roe, red deer and fox. Not sure if I should ecurage her on moose, because of here safety.

I have had some time of school, so I have had the time to train her a bit. She is now 9 months and last time we where out we had a bay, lasting for 1 hour on roe. She has also had a few rounds on hare. She has a nice steady bay, and to my suprise there is a large differense in her voise on hare compared to roe. I thought people that say they can hear what animal their dog is chasing was braging!

Because the roe season i closed, I haven't shoot anything infront of her yet, but I have had a couple of situations where I have had roe passing me very close. One stopped and lisened to the dog just 10 meters from me! She still keep good contact to me in the forest, but her search get bigger and bigger, which is a good thing.

I have also started her out on blood tracking, using bulls blood. Have laid her second trail out for tomorrow, she had no trouble with the first, which was about 50m long, with plenty of blood. I have a deer foot in the end of the trail. Hoping to get her aproved as a tracking hound next summer. And to get her "sheep free".

Now I'm popping back to hungary soon to do some exams, so my sister will continue traing the dog and show her. Gonna miss her..

Here she is just before setting after some fox tracks.

Also a house pet forsure Big Grin

I only train on Cottontail and Hare but want to wish you all the luck in your training. I usually start my lightly Branko bred hounds at 3 months and heavy bred Branko stuff at 6 months. look on this thread I have some pics of my dogs.

Thanks,

Hi Cornerstone

I saw the pictures of your dogs, they look a bit differnt from our beagle. How do you you hunt your beagles? In teams or alone? and how long do you expect them to keep a rabbit/hare moving? Our beagle are both show and hunting beagles, not two seprate types. Do you have one show type and one field type, or even several field types?

This is the breeders website: http://tyriberget.beagle.no/ lots of beagle pictures here.

Thoes are good looking dogs. I have been raising Beagles for 8 yrs. When I find a fresh roadkill snowshoe hare I skin it and use the hide as a drag to train the pups. We are just now recovering from the bottom of our 10 yr rabbit / hare cycle!. I hope to get out still this year again Big Grin I will try to post a pic??

No I only run one type of hound and they are off shoots of the Branko (CANADA) style hounds crossed with the Northway Blood.

They make very nice hounds for field shows. Nice ears, straight legs and a long lean body, but as with all good things you get some tha t most do not like. In my crosses you get the long thin nose. ( I call it a branko nose )

These hounds are bred and raised to run a medium fast track as a pack and a solid medium on a solo run with limited break downs. They are trained to run cottintail or hare only and bring game to the gun or continue to circle it till it holes under any extremes.

I breed what suits me and have 1 Rabbit Champion dog in the Little pack trials. Many others with various places and have sold and given away some pups out of my 3 breedings that do very well in Akc,Nkc and Ukc trials as well as just plain good gun dogs.

Ed
