Currently have a 28 month female lab who is house broken and very well mannered in the house. Obtained her as a pup and went through the training process without any other dogs around. Looking to add another dog, a 5 month female lab that is currently an outdoor kennel dog. Any ideas on how to house break the new dog in the presence of the older one? My concern is the older one will disrupt the breaking process. Thanks in advance for you thoughts.

Feed the pup inside then take her outside alone
until she takes care of things.

Your challenge is to get the new dog used to your house enviroment and to curb boisterous behaviour in the house - I would propose that you do this at first in the absence of the older dog as she will definitley disrupt the process - she might also get "involved" in a dominant manner should you need to enforce discipline with the new dog. Keep the new dog on lead at first and let her explore the house so she knows where what is.

Very importantly, let the older dog impress her dominance upon the newcomer and dont get involved as the younger needs to know her place in the pack.

If the older dog is calm inside the home, this would hopefully rub off on the younger one. dont allow boisterous play inside your home where things can be broken.

As an outside dog already, I would believe that she would be comfortable doing her business outside - let her find her spot and then after meals take her to that spot and praise her well when she does her thing there.

Thanks for the input.
New dog has ingrown eyelashes and will be undergoing corrective surgery soon. She will rehab in her current surroundings after which we'll take her home. Should be about 3 weeks.
