Trudy, my 14 year old jagd terrier will be put down later this morning. She has been my hunting partner, companion, house guardian, and the most dignified dog I have ever had. A true lady until it was time to work or defend the house and family, then she was fearless. I will miss her. Jerry Hoover

God speed and we will all meet again, it is a tough thing to do and hopefully your pal will look back at you with a wag of her tail.

Sorry for your loss Jerry. I lost my Giant Schnauzer of 12 years last Saturday. He had a stroke, so did not suffer long.

I said to a friend of mine, one of gods dirty tricks on us is, our dogs don't last as long as we do. He said, yes but your dog got to spend his or her whole life with you. Had not thought of that. Makes a lot of sense after you think about it a while.

Sorry to hear.
The worst part about owning a good dog is that they don't live nearly long enough.

Irreplaceable Jerry, I'm sorry for your loss.

I certainly hope you are able to meet a new little four legged friend soon that'll be able to offer a head to scratch when you're missing Trudy.

Jerry I know how you feel mate. My last to go to the happy hunting grounds was a Staffordshire bull terrier and at that time we were the best of mates.

Now I have an American Mastiff and he is just a dog.

That is one fo the most painful things I have gone thru. I had to put my last boerboel down myself. It about ripped my heart out. I feel your pain. Hopefully you can find a replacement soon

Jerry,

I am so sorry for your loss. The hurt will diminish in time but will never disappear.

When hunting certain areas and situations they will trigger bittersweet memories. The more pups I have to part with the more frequent my bittersweet memories.

Overriding your current pain, be thankful you had such a fantastic companion for such a long time.

Always hard to put a friend down. Find a nice picture of you 2 to hang up to remember the good times. I always say I'll never get another one but somewhere down the road a new fireball takes over the lost guard position. My condolences.

Many many thanks to all who responded. It has been almost two months since Trudy's departure. My family and my Lab Christo are still grieving. This is not the first time I have been in this situation and Christo is now 9 years old and old age is becoming apparent. Carol the wonderful Mrs. Hoover says no more dogs, but if one day I show up with a puppy,we will see. It ain't the way it used to be,but it will do. Jerry Hoover

Best way to get over it is replace the empty spot with another animal that needs to be cherished the way your last one was. Condolences.....
