Tis the tick season again. Last year I used K9advantix on my young lab. It did kill ticks, but only after they were embedded in her skin. Frontline plus seems to be another alternative. What are your favorites for man's best friend? Thanks for any suggestions.

Try a straight pyrethrein spray. Mycodex and Adams both make good ones. They are the least toxic to the dogs and most toxic to the ticks of all the pesticides you can use on you or the dog. They do not last but a day. They are not waterproof. They will kill ticks right now. They knock wasps out of the air. Permetrin is a synthetic pyrethryn and it is much more toxic to you and the dog.

I believe the topical heart worm medicine (Revolution) has some ability to repel fleas and ticks. I suppose it makes the dogs blood a bit non palatable.

I have used advantix and frontline. Now I only use frontline. I live in tick heaven. last weekend picked seven or eight off the dog, stone dead. Permithrin sprays work extrememely well, too. The only issue is when you run out. Don't ask. Dan Donarski Hunter's Horn Adventures Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 906-632-1947 www.huntershornadventures.com

I use the Frontline that you put between the shoulder blades. But this time of year when he's constantly in and out of the lake it's necessary to use the Frontline spray after a hiking trip. We went out a couple of weeks ago and picked up ALOT of ticks, so I sprayed him when we got home and in a few hours the ticks were abandoning ship in a bad state or falling off dead. I still haven't found one embedded in him.

I use frontline, because its "waterproof," always had great results. As I recall advantix works against more critters than frontline, but its not waterproof.

Howdy Folks! I am the new kid on the block and was told of this very fine hunting sight. Now for ticks, I use HARTZ "Flea & Tick" collars. I double them up and tape them on the underside of the dogs 1 inch nylon collars. They are good for 7 months and work just fine. I also place cedar shavings in our dogs kennel and dog house. No insects like cedar and do not stick around for long, not even the flies.
