The 308, when used as a common denominator ( Palma, ft/r-I think) makes it akin to NASCAR, where driver skill and not much else, separates the field.
In LR, slippery and light recoil is seemingly better, espc if you are a multiple round shooter like Pdogs, round or steel targets. for killing power, that is when the ante is upped and calibers/cartridges grow.
I applaud Palma shooters who sling 308 155 grain bullets from 30+ barrels with irons and slings- and clean the target in the wind!
With optics, bipods and big slippery bullets, the game changes somewhat.
