True enough but after a day of trying to hit anything at 1000 yds with a bone stock Remington BDL or ADL I bet he starts shooting at things a LOT closer. I know that will bring lots of tales about that one BDL that would, but probabilities for this one seem small "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

True enough but after a day of trying to hit anything at 1000 yds with a bone stock Remington BDL or ADL I bet he starts shooting at things a LOT closer. Very true. My opinion exactly. My guess is that in less than 20 rds. the reality will start to set in. I know that will bring lots of tales about that one BDL that would, but probabilities for this one seem small Some of these new shooters are having the wool pulled over their eyes by hunting videos on TV that in reality are just trying to sell something. They need to get out from in front of that TV and go out to the range and do some shooting. velocity is like a new car, always losing value. BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.

The latest American Rifleman has an article on a weathermeter and a Bushnell Elite rangefinder which talk to each other, simplfying the calculations for a firing solution. Expensive, but certainly making things simpler for the inexperienced long range shooter. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Thanks guys, I appreciate the information. I don't know long range shooting. The longest shot I've made was on a blue wildebeest that my laser rangefinger couldn't read, and that was supposed to read animals at 450 yards.....

How about irons? A friend from Austin, Texas with his M14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...sX4&feature=youtu.be I was the shooter. I was told about the match, and decided to sign up and dragged along a couple of my buddies who formerly shot for the military teams. We were surprised when we were told the plate measures 18 x 24. The carrot was a hat embroidered "Iron Sight 1000 Yards" if any iron sight shooter hits it once, plus gift card to the winner. Match rule, 1 sighter and 10 shots for record I got lucky I managed 6 hits. The 18 inch wide steel plate was like aiming at a needle in relative proportion to the front sight

Keep in mind that the X ring at 1000yds. is just some 10" and it is hit quite regularly in such matches with micrometer "peep" sight systems. Palma matches, no optics and only the lowly 308 caliber qualifies for the 8,9,and 1000yd targets. You get 45 chances to attain your ticket to fame and fortune, few make it.

BWW is having his moving sale, and sold me his Vortex Viper scope. VHS-4310m 6-24 x50 30mm tube. This is my second scope with side focus, and I really like it. If you shop a little, you can find one for $700 or a bit less. Rich
