I have a 270 weatherby MK5, 26" barrel. I just had it accurized by hill country. It included bedding and free floating. So I have a load with Speer 130s that prints a o.4 MOA for the first three shots froma cold barrel. The point of impact then moves horizontally by 3 MOA but still groups. So if I keep shooting with a hot barrel the point of impact will remain in the new location away from the POI when the barrel was cold. Does anybody have any ideas why? Oh, I am shooting in 95F temperature. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Jack
This is my third gun by HCR and they all shoot great. They turned my 8mm into a nail driver from a 2 moa gun. This 270 is also accurate but I can't thunk of why a point on impact change is occurring within the first four shots that is so dramatic.

Hey Jack, That sounds great to me. I can see where a Target shooter would want them all together, but as a Hunter, if the first 3 go together that should be plenty.
I'll guess your barrel is changing a bit(warping) as it warms up. Used to hear a good bit about Cryogenic Treating resolving those kind of issues, but I never needed to try it. For me, if it isn't hit after 2-shots, it is time for me to go see what is wrong.
Best of luck to you.

Barrel heating up may well be the problem, but first thing I would check is the torque on the action screws as well as the bedding. Don't know what stock you have, wood/synthetic??, but would remove barrel/action from stock, retorque the front action screw to whatever, say 50-60 in/lbs then do the rear one as well. Keep in mind the folks that did the work on your rifle know what the proper setting for torque would be, so I am just guessing on my numbers and would check with them. As suggested, would speak with the firm anyway just for reassurance/guidance. Might also suggest you try a five shot group and then determine the center of that group for obvious shift in the dispersion pattern of shots. Would think the five shot group be no more than say, 1" plus at 100yds. Just a suggestion.

I totally agree with that assessment
I shoot a number of single shots. Not trying to sound like a wiseacre, but because of the time and preparation undertaken before I pull the trigger on a "Hunting Rifle", and the distance at which I shoot, more than one shot is rarely ever necessary. So as long as your confident where that first shot will go, every time, should be no problem.

Barrels that have been straightened will revert to their previous position after they get hot. As every manufacturer of commercial non-custom rifles straightens barrels when necessary. This is a very common practice, I don't think that the manufacturer will give you a new barrel, but you can try. There's really no way that the gunsmith that accurized your rifle could have been aware of this condition in advance. The only cure is a new barrel that has not been straightened, or just live with it. How often do you shoot more than 3 shots when hunting?
velocity is like a new car, always losing value. BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.

The problem could be as Swampshooter stated or it could be a bedding issue. For a hunting rifle I see no need to shoot more than 3 shot groups. The first shot should do the trick, if not the next 2 will seal the deal
