Canon strobe advice needed

I need advice on a good strobe to use on my Canon AE-1. (Yes, I'm still using film ). My last strobe just quit on me, and I need a "new" one. It looks like most everything now is geared toward the digital cameras. I need bounce capabilities, zoom coverage, etc. Can anyone recommend a good unit that I might find on the used market? "Other-than-Canon" manufacturers are fine, as long as they'll function with the AE-1.

Thanks!

Metz is at the top of my list. It would probably be easier to find a dedicated sync attachment for the Metz 45 for your AE-1 Program that would allow full automation with your TTL on board system. The Metz 60 would be best as it is the most powerful flash around.

On a more cheaper note, the Vivitar 285 would be a good choice. It has bounce, lots of power and automation provided by the flash head. I think the 285 may still be found in good shape used in camera shops... just a little input from one film user to another- hope it helps...

You could try Quantum Flash. I have one with the 400 W/S battery and that outdoes even the Metz. Metz, by the way, is good stuff, my wife and I just needed the range. If your needs are modest, the AE-1, like my old F-1 can probably use just about any flash and the Vivitar 285 gives yeoman service. Don't spend more money than you need, as the camera probably is at the end of its fixable life. Geo.

Thanks guys!

I just picked up a used Vivitar 285, as well as a used Canon 199A. Seems like it should do what I need it to do for now...

I'm keeping my eye out for a fair price on the Metz unit. Looks real nice, but definitely more money than the Vivitar...

Thanks again!
