anyone have any experience with this camera? i am particularly intrigued by the fact that it takes 12 megapixel stills, in addition to 1080 HD video. i don't care about the 32 gig flash memory as i never shoot more than 60 minutes of video on a hunting trip and i have lots of memory stIcks if i need more space.

BUT, I have tried several other video cameras that are supposed to take stills at several migapixels.

NONE of them comes even close to matching a cheap still camera I am afraid.

My suggestion is to pick a video camera soley for video, and take a small pocket camera for stills. Also my suggestion is to avoid video cameras with high migapixel count and a small censor - they are not so good in low light.

I am currently using a Canon HF S11 for video, and a Panasonic DMC-TZ7 for stills.

The TZ7 takes HD video as well, but, it is no where near as good as from the vdeo camera.

I just bought one, but it really takes only 6 megapixel stills. What would you like to know?

The camcorder touts a 12-megapixel still image capability, but its top native resolution is around 6.2 megapixels. This means the two highest image size options (4000 x 3000 and 4000 x 2250) are interpolated from a 2880 x 2160 image. A 6.2-megapixel capability is still quite good, although it is not as large as the native resolution you'd get even from a cheap digital camera.

I been using DV tapes but been unhappy with the size of the camcorders. Going to one that uses memory sticks has allowed me to buy a HD CC that is over an 1.5 inch shorter, and about 3/4 of an inch narrower and shallower. Bought it on Amazon for $799.

thanks for the reply but since i originally posted this i have done a lot of research on this model and have decided to get one, even though the 12 meg still pic is an interpolated number. 6 megs are ok for my purposes. i have just been waiting for the price to come down and can now get one for $709 with free shipping.. will order it in the next few days.

Great price. I never seen it that low, even on sites I don't trust.

I have just tried the Sony CX520, and was very impressed with its performance.

In fact, we are going to Kenya in a couple of week's time, and my plan is to take it and use it there while on a photo safari.
