Finally entered the digital age some time ago with a used Canon A 80, that my son got me a deal on. Very happy with the camera, I've dragged it over a good portion of the civilized world and I like it's features. It has maximum zoom and maybe cause I'm an old timer, I prefer to shoot with the view finder. Unfortunatly , the old girl has taken to flashing the infamous E 18 code. tied all the usual remedies, short of disassemmbly, which has helped, but I can't count on it.

I want something of a similar size and feature, with a viewfinder, which seems to lacking in all those I've looked at. Last but not least, I don't want it to cost an arm and a leg, cause it's gonna have a rough Life.

I have been using the Canon SX 230 HS for the past few weeks, and I have been very imressed with its performance.

Only drawback is the battry life, as they seem to make them smaller and smaller to fit these small cameras.

I carry a spare with me just in case.

One thing that I noticed in the advanced point and shoots.

If you have a particular brand of DSLR and you buy the same brand of P&S, you will find that the software is similar, if not identical speeding up the learning curve.

I have a Nikon DSLR and bought a Nikon S7c and found this to be true.

I've been using a Canon SD1000 Powershot for three years. Until last week, that is, when it refused to turn on. Not the batt. So I'm in the same boat you are. Here is what I'm looking for:

Viewfinder, as I need glasses to see the screen. Yeh, I'm an old fart, too.

Moderate mega pixels, preferably less than ten, to enhance low-light capability.

Disposable/replaceable batts, such as in my beloved N70.

Quick shutter reaction time.

Decent lens, of course.

Price is a concern. Would like to stay under $300.
