Please take a look at the following page of photos and tell me what you think.

I am evaluating a Camera. These were taken in about 10 minutes and the salesmen had about 15 minutes before me to figure out the camera.

Please comment by picture number if there are specifics and/or at the group as a whole.

Specifics - All indoor photos with ambiant light. Overcast outdoors. Several changes to internal settings during the shoot.

Thanks for your help!

OK nothing jumps out at me one way or another.
The real question is DO YOU LIKE THE CAMERA? and WILL YOU BE SMILING WHEN YOU LEAVE WITH IT?
Cameras are like guns, dogs, trucks and women, one man's do all be all will cause the next guy to puke. I have 4 35mm film cameras all Canons (QL16, A1, EF, and a T90) and 4 digitals, 2 Sonys,(Mavica 70, Mavica MVC-CD1000) one Canon EOS 10D and a FujiFilm Fine Pix A200. Two of these cost well over $1500 each all but two cost over $500 at the time I got them BUT the one I grab most is the A200 (it was a freebe with a computer purchase). It is small enough to fit in any pocket takes real fine pics and is easy to operate. Don't get me wrong that EOS 10D is a real fine machine and when I'm crawling the woods looking for mushrooms it is the camera I have along with the A1 but for something to take along on a park outting with the kids or just drop in a pocket to have at the fair that A200 gets the nod. No matter what it is there is sure to be someone here that will tell you what a bad mistake you made in getting it. [Wink]

Thanks Still Crawfish,
Anyone else?

I am asking because I know there are several very discriminating photogs around and I am looking at the technical(with limited conditions) apprasial.

I wouldn't be asking if I didn't like the camera to start with [Big Grin]

I have a point and shoot 3.2 megapixel that is grat for what it does and I have 2 35mm slr's that I JUST love but am interested in a higher end digital.

Thanks

I'll give it a shot. Just remember, I'm trying to figure this out just like you.

Pic 1
This picture looked the best to me. The settings allowed for the interior lights as well as the glare from outside. It was probably set for apurature priority because everything seems to be in focus for the most part.

Pic 2
This picture was smaller then the rest. I was curious if you set the camera to save the images to a lesser quality. It was 1004x1504 compared to 3008x2008. This picture did a pretty good job of adjusting the settings for interior and exterior light as well.

Pic 3
This one was dark. The camera was probably focusing on something outside which gave it a faster shutter speed or closed the aperature. The interesting part was when I lightened the picture in Paint Shop Pro. I could read the text on the canon boxes by the window. So even though it was dark, the quality was still there to some extent.

Pic 4
This one has a yellowish tint. I was wondering if it was under glass or just the flouresent lights affecting it. Other then that it seemed very crisp at the center of the focal point.

Pic 5
This picture looked very dark. It looks like the overhead lights really affected the shutter speed or appurature setting. Again adjusting the brightness helped but this time the crispness didn't seem to be there.

Pic 6
This one was the darkest of them all. However after adjusting the brightness to the point of washing it out. I could still read the printing on the photo paper packages.

There is my .02 cents worth. In todays economy though it might only be .01 cents. I hope this is what you were looking for. Let us know what camera you were testing out. Your other pictures didn't show up on your website when I looked at them.

Thanks Fisher!
I think that this body will work once I get the hang of the programming. It has both AP and SP modes in addition to total control. The darker ones were before I figured out where to set the ISO speed. I was also seeing what type of resolution Id get at the slow speeds handheld(Same as 35mm HeHe)
I am pleased woththe crispness and the depth of field as it seems to be very much like the 35. I would have liked to have had a sunny day to see what that looked like on a coule outside shots.
Overall the camera seems to be very responsive to me. And like Still Crawfish said would I be happy? I think so I just am not sure if the cost is worth it just yet.

Since you are considering a DSLR, have you read the posts on the "brand" forums - that might help you decide. This is Canon with a category of EOS-Digital http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php I know there is a Nikon forum also.

I also read the reviews and forums at http://dpreview.com/ before buying my camera. Once you narrow down your choices, in "Buying Guide" you can get a "side-by-side comparison" at dpreview for any number of cameras. It lists the price and features and is a very useful tool.

And if you are interested in wildlife/nature photography, go to some of those websites and view the photos in the forums. They usually list the equipment they are using.

And then - there is a camera shop in Pennsylvania - don't know which city - that sells equipment cheaper than I have found at B&H or KEH. I know many professional photographers shop there. So if you need it, I have his phone number. He doesn't have a website that I am aware of. I bought all of my stuff over the phone. Great service.

Good luck!

Well guys, I couldn't help myself. I went out last night and bought the 300D. One of the lenses I have for my elan 7 is a 70-300 Sigma. I've heard a lot about the sigma lenses not working with the digital rebel. So I took it with me and made sure that everything was going to work. There seemed to be no problems. I'll spend the weekend learning and trying it out. I bought the 1 gig compact flash to go with it. That should last me for a day of shooting pictures.

Thanks guys.

I'm sure you will love your new Canon, just look at that BIG smile on you face. I have never had a Canon that I didn't like at the time BUT I am always looking at the new stuff they always seem to be coming up with. Keep hearing about a 8meg chip coming out fall of 2004, wonder if printer quality will catch up?

Well I uguess it is about time I let you guys know what I am thinking about.

http://www.pentax.com/products/cameras/camera_overview.cfm?productid=18981

This is the new Pentax *istD 6.3 megapixed slr.
I am a pentax slr owner and can't justify the expense of several additional lenses, so I was waiting for their slr body to come out.

Thanks for looking and also your comments!

Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll have fun playing with my new toy. You can bet I'll post some picture when I get everything figured out. How did you know what I was looking at next SC. HP is suppose to be coming out with a new photo printer sometime after the first of the year. It's suppose to be pretty nice.

Amosgreg, let me know when you get that Pentax. Make sure you let us know how you like it.

Thanks again
