| If all you want is to get movies or pictures off - or to - the iphone, I suggest you get one of the many wireless photo transfer apps on the app store. That is how I do mine, as I never use itunes. |

How old is your iMac? You should be able to find that information by opening "About This Mac" under the Apple menu (the small apple icon at the top left corner of the screen." Anyway, RAM is very easy to replace on the iMac. I usually buy RAM from "crucial.com." As for the OS, you could always upgrade to OSX 10.9 or so, and even higher (Yosemite) depending on how old your computer is. The upgrades are free. |
