I have just started playing around with a digital camera, but I am having trouble getting the pictures the right physical size and at the right file size to post on the boards. The picture i have on the screen when using Adobe Eelements 2 editing software seems to bare little resembelence to how it will turn out on the boards or physically when I print it.

Any help would be appriciated as I am basically a redneck when it comes to computers...

Regards

Pete

Pete,

I am not familiar with Elements, but I presume it is a cut down version of Photoshop.

When you open a photo, look at the list of menus at the top of the ecreen. One choice will probably be IMAGE.

Click on it, and from the drop down menu you will see a number of choices, one of them should be SIZE.

If you wish to post your photo on the web, I suggest you size it to 640x480 - generally, if you just reduce the larger side to 640, the other will be automatically sized down as well.

When you wish to print a photo. Go to the FILE menu.

From the drop down menu you should see PAGE SETUP. From here you should pick the paper size, and orientation - lansscape or portrait. You should also see a small box which if checked will fit the photo automatically to the paper size. Check this one too.

All teh above information is in Photoshop, I just hope you have it in Elements.

One thing you should always bear in mind. It is better to keep your photos at their original size. Make another directory, copy the photos you wish to play around with into it, and do whatever you wish.

This is what I do. That way the originals always stay the same.

Also, to make it easier for filing the photos. I make a directory called PICTURES. In there I create another sub-directory with the year - 2004 - and in this one I create a seperate directory for each month.

This makes like a lot easier.

I hope this helps.

Hi PeteE
Saeed is right.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and Image is the one to select then resize.

It goes File, Edit , Image, Enhance etc at the top under the blue of the window.

Saeed gives good advice on saving the original photos and creating a copy to edit.

You can also reduce the size of a picture by croping it.

You must have bought an Olympus camera?

Thanks Gents,

Things are starting to slot into place!

Lets give this a try!

I uploaded this onto Hunt101 and when I right click and look at the properties it says 450x560 pixels...

Lets see how it comes up....

Ok, Its still physically larger than what i intended..If I go to "images" , then "resize" , can somebody explain what figures i have to put in so the picture comes up at around 2" wide by 3" when viewed here? if I view print size, thats correct, but I can't seem to correlate the image size in adope photoshop elements to the image size as it appears here!

The camera is a Nikon Coolpix 3700 BTW...

thanks in advance,

Pete

I think I am getting the hang of this slowly..I assume now that as I have reduced the file size considerably already, I don't have to compress the image as much when I save it it to jpeg...I am guessing that will give a physically small opicture, but one which is reasonable quality?

Regards

Pete
