I don't know if I agree with that statement 100%. I have looked at many digital photos and compared them with stuff taken with my Hasselblad equipment, and at the larger sizes I see better quality coming from the negatives unless the mexapixel size is in the middle teens.

I have 30 x 40 prints from my hasselblad that look better than 16 x 20 prints from a digital camera that has a 12 megapixel sensor, especially in the shadow detail.

Any of the equipment you buy will be for naught if you don't learn how to use it and how to compose, frame and focus properly and quickly. Start taking classes now and read about how to take correctly framed images. It will pay off big no matter which camera you use.
After carrying an SLR around for three weeks in the bush I left it behind often and carried a little Fujipix for awhile. I cherish those 4 meg images as much as the 10 meg pics.
