I suggest also trying a diffuser on the flash head, or bounce the flash off a soft white surface. You can eliminate some of the glare and reflections from the polished surfaces that way.

You're right, Wink. I've already put an independant flash unit on my wish list. So far, I've only been playing with the built in (pop up) flash of the Nikon. I place the subject close to a natural light source wich I complement with the flashlight held at different angles.
