Getting a decent print from a digital photograph

While I've said it before, getting a decent print out of a digital photograph is not an easy matter. Just about everything you might do to get your image to look great when it's downsized to 1200X800 pixels for a computer monitor is almost exactly what you shouldn't do if you want a large size print. Unfortunately, we hardly ever hear from the guys that run high-end print labs. Here's your chance:

By the way, I started corresponding with Wesley after this interview, since there are a lot of things he doesn't say in the interview. For instance, the larger your prints get, the more the software used for RAW conversion comes into play. In his experience, he believes Capture One to be the best RAW convertor, with ACR being second. He hasn't seen too many requests for prints from files RAW converted by DxO Optics Pro so didn't comment on that. I'm going to visit a digital print lab in Paris and try to get them to tell me how to use my software so that they get files they think are worth printing.
