My wife suggested I get my own pocket sized camera rather than keep borrowing hers. Its getting easy to leave the big cameras home. What is a good camera for use hunting and fishing. I am not technical and my cameras live on "auto". I just want a decent zoom and something reliable and compact. Suggestions greatly appreciated.

I am NOT a camera snob, but I like the Nikon Coolpix L610. 16 Megapixel and AA batteries. It works well enough for me, but I still lug around my Pentax DSLR or Nikon D5000. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

It depends how much you wish to spend, and what you are looking for. I like to have a pocket camera that has a long zoom for hunting. My current pocket camera is a Panasonic TZ40. It has a 20X zoom, and take very hi8gh quality photos. My suggestion is to use your camera set on P for programmed. It normally takes better photos that way than full auto. Another good small camera is the Canon SX260 or SX280.

I've been using a Canon 780IS for several years. A little bigger than a credit card. Set it on P and enjoy the excellent photos. You can buy them on e-bay as they've not made them for awhile.

My good friends at Camera Land suggested an Olympus for $200. I am tough on cameras so a camera named Tough seemed appropriate. Thanks for the help.

Saeed, When you say P mode takes better pictures. What do you mean? My Panasonic has a iA mode, should I use the P mode instead?
