Need a reccomendation for a digital camera with these specs.

I am finally going to go digital I was told that I should get a camera with the following specs for my purposes wildlife photgraphy.
6mg or larger and at least a 10x optical zoom or better.
I am leaning toward the Canon line I use a Nikon 35mm now. What would you recommend that I look at?

Thanks for any help, I am open to any suggestions you can offer.

GO to CNET .COM this site compares all cameras that you are looking for. They are seperated into maga pixels. Check it out very good site.

PaGriz...Panasonic is coming out with some new digital cameras that might fit your specs..the new models FZ4 and FZ5 should be out this April...check out their website.

Thanks folks I will take a look at this info.
I am looking at the Canon Rebel right now and with the interchangible lens it so far is looking best.
I found one on the net a Canon EOS Digital Rebel that comes with two lens a Sigma 2-70mm F3.5-5.6 zoom lens and a Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Macro Super zoom. Case and extra battery for $899.95 sounds like a good deal to me.

Sounds like a big one to me? If I did not have a small pocket digital I would not have 10% of the outdoor pics that I do now.

Thanks for the help everyone. I bought the Canon Digital Rebel EOS should be here tomorrow.
Looks like it just may be what I needed.

Griz-I bought that same camera a couple of weeks ago. It's unfrickenbelieveable! Fortunately, I already had several Canon lenses for my 35milimeters. Two lenses I can highly recommend for the new Canon EOS Digital are the Canon 28-135 IS (the image stabilizer is super), and the Tamron 28-300. Get yourself a 4 Gig memory card for it. You can get them at Best Buys. They're pricey, but can hold over 1,000 images.

Thanks for the info Mike, I got the lens I mentioned in my post with the camera and I just ordered the close up lens to take pics of flys and other close ups. I do a lot of nature photography with my Nikon 35mm and have a feeling this new one is going to put it on the back burner for a while, once I get it figured out that is. At least it will be fun playing with it.
Please keep me posted on how your doing with yours too.

You've had your Canon Eos for a couple of months now. How do you like it. I've got no complaints about mine.

Mike, this thing is so user friendly it's unreal. I'm having a ball with it.
Best money I ever spent. One thing I am going to do though is get a 300mm zoom the 200 I have falls short for some of my field shots.

PaGriz, I bought a Hitachi 6 gig memory card for it today. I've just about used up the 4 gig card I picked up when I bought the camera. The 6 gig card ran around 295.00 at Best Buys.

By the way, where do you live in Pa? I'm outside of Douglassville, about 12 miles northwest of Pottstown.

If you do not plan on printing anything bigger than a 11 x 14 I would stay with any high quality 5 megapixel


My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.
