You have an incredible choice right now, so you will have to narrow your requirements.

Do you wish to have normal SD video or do you wish to have HD?

For normal DVD quality videos I suggest you get a mini DV camera. These use standard tape, and are easy to edit and put on DVDs.

If you wish to have HD, then you really only have on choice right now. Pick a camera that records to AVCHD format. Some are available with a built in hard disk, and some record to removable media.

The ones with removable media make it easier to transfer your footage to a computer.

Stay away from those made by JVC. They use their own HD format, which is not supported by many editing programs.

If you do opt for an HD format camera, you will need a computer with lots of horsepower.

I'm trying to figure out this myself these days and have tried to look into the subject.

I'm not looking for the most fancy, but would opt for the HD.
Product reviews on Canon HF10 and Canon HF100 seems good, and the price is reasonble.
Haven't really figured out what the difference between these two are regarding quality.
The HF10 uses both internal memory and SD cards. The HF100 uses SD cards only.
The advantage with SD cards is that your recording is safer, both from damage and if someone steals it.. Smiler

I saw that you have an HF 10, Saeed. Do you know the difference between HF 10 and HF 100?

The HF 10 has an internal memory as well as an SD card slot.

The HF 11 has the same specs, apart from having a better bit rate - 17MB v 24MB.

I would opt for the HF11, and if you hold on a bit longer, there is another one coming soon. Just look at Canon's website.

Thanks!
But do you know anything about the older HF 100?
Need to try and keep the price a bit down, and I think the HF 11 is double price of the HF 100.. Smiler
What is bit rate, btw?

The HF 100 has internal memory, and has lower specs than the HF 11.

You can see detailed reviews on this site.

I'm also strongly considering a camcorder purchase. Does the HF11 record sound as well as video?

All video camcorders - at least the ones I know - do record video as well as stereo sound.

Has anyone tried a Point of View Camera? Particularly something like the fully self-contained, wearable VholdR?

They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can't get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods." -- H. L. Mencken
