I have a photo I want to turn into my avatar. How do I resize a photo to make it the right dimensions and size? Cropping doesn't reduce it size (apparently a 50 mb maximum). In what application should I open the photo in to make changes? NRA Endowment Life Member USAF Veteran

Irfanview (Iview) is free. There are others but Iview is very good. pick the "Size Method" that works best. this one is Lanczos

If you are using windows, just right click the photo and click on "edit". It will probably bring you into Paint that has a click link to "resize". Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

The example (I don't know Irfanview) shows a 72 dots per inch pixel density (DPI). That was the case with computer monitors a long time ago. These days they are mostly 96 DPI. I assume the "Size method" dialog box lets you pick a resampling method which will let you end up with the total "weight" of the final image. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.
