I need to buy one,I think. I would like to take some videos of some shooting from my rifle. There seems to be alot of models out there. Can I mount one on top of my scope? Any major differences in the models? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

I've got the GoPro Hero4 Black. I looked at the new Hero5 and did not see anything there that flipped my skirt up. But the Hero4 is being phased out so makes sense to gravitate towards the Hero5. You can find a plethora of both GP and third party mounts for the camera to attach it to anything on the planet. I would strongly recommend that you consider a gimbal handle if you will be shooting dismounted via hand. I use the FeiyuTech G5 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal and love it. Also, there are several new players in the same market segment as GoPro, but I do not have any first hand experience with them but probably worth looking at. Remember, all of these little cameras have a wide field of view and are not designed to zoom in on distant points of interest. So if you mount on your scope you won't see much in the distance. ___________________ Just Remember, We ALL Told You So.

Quality wise, there is not that much difference between the 4 and 5 Black. But, the 5 has a longer lasting battery and much easier to operate. And as Opus has mentioned, they really are useless for taking video of what you are shooting at as they have a very wide field of view, and you won't see much in the distance.

That's the reason I sold mine after using it once. You really can't see much beyond 15-20 yards with any degree of clarity. The image is just too small. Vote Trump- Putin’s best friend… To quote a former AND CURRENT Trumpiteer - DUMP TRUMP

Another very inexpensive alternative beyond a GoPro or DSLR is to use a PhoneScope - www.phoneskope.com They have adaptors for spotting scopes as well as rifle scopes, binoculars, and telescopes. I have used one on a spotting scope with the remote trigger for years and it works amazingly well. Great for stills as well as video. I use it also for live view so that you don't have to sit on a spotting scope all day. ___________________ Just Remember, We ALL Told You So.

There are a lot of Go Pro knock off's now. Spend $100.00 instead of $400!!! https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=n...eywords=SJCAM+SJ5000

But nothing comes even close, believe me, I have tried most of them. When it comes to action cameras, GoPro is top, no question about it. When it comes to drones, DJI is tops, no questions about it. We have dozens of Hero 5s being used every day. And we have several DJI PHANTOM 4s and MAVICs being used too. We only consider quality, regardless of the cost. In the shop where we buy our from sells all sorts of both drones and action cameras. And the owner is a friend, and does not mind us trying any of them.

I think the GoPro is a very nice camera to have if you want to film the prep before a hunt, Walking/Stalking, (Film the shooting/long distance game sighting with a better camcorder), then use the GoPro for the film of ejecting the shell...walking up to the animal, and posing for photos.
