I have decided to try and edit my hunt in Botswana last year. I have a PC and a sony mini dv handycam that i used. Does anyone know of a basic video editing program that would help me edit my film. Any and all help appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the most basic video editing program is Windows Movie Maker, which you should have on your computer. I'm a Mac guy, so can't be much more help. I do know there are a lot of editing programs available for pc though.

Actually MM isn't too bad. If you're just using it to make "Home Movies" it's fine and free. I have used most of the non-production level programs. (most high-end stuff runs on Macs) And I'm currently using AVID's Studio 11. Cool features but nothing world shattering. Best of luck,

Your best bet is Adobe Premier Elements. It is in its 4th version right now.

It is better than all the other competing programs at roughly the same price.

Like those from Ulead and Pinnacle.

It is very easy to use.

Here's a free program. I haven't tried it, I'm not too interested in video.

I've been using Corel's Ulead Video Studio 12 and I'm NOT happy with it. It crashed a few times, and when I went to the support web site I found a number of patches they'd had to create that could be downloaded. When I bought the product, it wasn't advertised as defective and soon to require a patch.

I have a friend who attended the Travel Channel Academy where they recommend, and use, Final Cut Pro, which is available in a less expensive "express" version, but only runs on a MAC. I don't want to go out and buy a new computer, so Final Cut Pro is not an option.

I've been looking at two other options:
Adobe Premier Elements
Pinnacle Studio 12

Saeed, are you (or anyone else) familiar with Pinnacle? If not, I won't take a chance on it. I haven't talked to anyone who's used it. I already use Adobe CS4 Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash) and I do like their programs. But if Pinnacle might be better . . .

We have all the above software - Premier Elements 7, Pinnacle 12 Ultimate and UL Video Studio.

The easiest one to use is Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate.

They all work, but each has its own peculiar menus.

I've had problems with Ulead on a XP machine, but seem to work just fine on a Vista 64 bit system.

In fact, we have upgraded all our systems to Vista 64. And all the programs seemt o work much better with it than on XP??!!
