I am thinking of getting a camera to put out on the property to monitor game movements. Not wanting to spend a whole lot of money. Can anybody give some suggestions on what is the best bang for the buck. I am running Windows Vista so it would have to be compatible with this.

Thanks

A few questions:

1. What is your budget? I have seen plenty of trailcams and can tell you for sure that the cheap cameras almost always give cheap results, but maybe that's all you need.
2. Are you looking for regular flash or infrared (IR) flash on night pics?
3. Are you worried about security/having it stolen?
4. If you are even partially "techie", would a used homemade camera interest you? (not mine).
5. Would you be interested in building one on your own?

You can do some research on this site, which is pretty good: Chasinggame (look in the Swap N'Shop section as well) and see some good reviews elsewhere on their site at Chasinggame Trail Camera Reviews.

I have two homemade trailcams built on digital Sony P32 and P41 regular flash cameras that take excellent pics and just bought one of the ScoutGuard SG550s that takes IR flash pics.

I use Reconynx cameras. Very fast, no sleep mode and very conservative on batteries. Pricey but worth every penny.

I've got a Bushnell, a Moutrie and a Stealth and have had to send every one of them back to get a working model. The oldest, Bushnell, has been sent back about 4 times, the Moultrie twice and the Stealth twice.

I'm fixing to send the Bushnell back again.

We put all three cameras out on the same tree.

Bushnell crapped out after two pictures.

Moultrie shutter time so slow some images didn't appear. To test shutter time, I walked across the field of view and the Moultrie caught me at the very edge.

Stealth seemed like the best. A spike buck and some raccoons got thier pictures taken. The burst mode took 3 pics in close succession-nice.

I have two Moultrie 4.0 IRs and am very happy with them!! Color day and B/W night but still very crisp. Ranch is 5 hrs away so batt life was important and so far the longest I have left them without changing batts is 2.5 mos and they were still working fine. My only prob is I need to get some 4 gb cards as I'm filling the 2 gbs in about six wks average (1900 pics).
I purchased them at Cabelas for IIRC $190 but I just saw Bass Pro has them at $179.
BTW I'm super picky and with Cabelas generous return policy if I had any complaints I would have returned them.
Based on everyone elses experience I may have just gotten lucky with them though...?

I bought a Moultrie 4 a while ago. Works fine for me and cost about 100 bucks.

Here's some pictures I took recently. Scroll down a bit: Here
First day out it took 72 pics and the next 192. Have been out for 5-6 days without need of new batteries. The temp has been around 0 to -8 degrees celcius.

A bit slow as you can see on the picture of the fox. Moving game might be a problem.
