I have been a Nikon user for a long time, but, the high frame rate of the EOS 1Ds Mk III seem interesting. I am thinking of getting one, so any first hand feedback would be most appreciated.

A professional photographer friend of mine uses one & really likes it a lot. I knew that you would finally come over to Canon! Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I got mine today. No lenses so far, and the dealers has promised the lense EF 28-300 F3.5-5.6L IS USM will be delivered this afternoon, together with a flash unit. We are going to the Seychelles for a week next wekk, I will take this camera along and post some photos when we get back. I like the Live Review function, but, one has to use manual focus with it. I had the original 1Ds and the Nikon D1x. The D1x photoes looked better. I have been impressed with the photoes of the Nikon D40x. And my main reason for buying this Canon is the high frame rate it has, and the number of frames it can take in a burst. 10 fps up to 110. This comes in handy when taking photoes of wildlife, especially when they are moving. I got 2 16GB compact fast compact flash cards - each can hold about 4160 photoes at the highest quality JPG! It will be interesting to see how this camera works on birds in flight. Another impressing thing about it is the battery life. Over 4000 frames between charges!

Thats amazing. One charge of the batterys won't fill one card!

Well, I got hold of a Canon 70-300 lense, and thought of trying a few shots in the workshop with high ISO settings, and high frame rates. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the high ISO photoes - no flash was used, and the photos were perfectly fine to use. At the same setting and high frame rates the results have been a bit mixed. The camera did take several photoes in quick succession, but some of them were out of focus. I am not complaining, as this is done to extreme. Tomorrow I am getting my lense, and will take some photoes of our animals in the backyard and see what results we get. The camera has two memory slots. One for a compact flash card and one for an SD card. I have some 8GB SD cards here, so with one 16 GB and one 8GB card in the camera, one can take 6240 photoes at the highest JPG quality! Absolutely amazing!

Saeed: Your new camera uses a full size sensor. It means that it's best to buy the correct lenses to take full advantage of such sensor. If you look at the Canon lenses for it B&H Photo And Video web site, you will notice that in the specifications it's indicated the sensor type the lens is designed for. You may want to set the camera to automatically take both JPEG and RAW photos, or just RAW when you use it in some of the semi-manual to manual modes. For example, in such modes you can change the white balance at will; but lest say that you forget the white balance on the wrong setting. That's not problem at all with RAW photos, because when you open the photo with PhotoShop, right there you can change anything you want, including white balance. Now, what you may want to do is to register (free registration) at the forum below. Whenever you have the slightest problem with you new camera, want to know about the best lenses for your type of photo shooting, or want to learn something about the camera of photo taking with it, you can ask some of the professional photographers there. If the photos don't show on your computer monitor, then they will after you have registered. Some folks from your Country post their photos at the Travel & Landscape Forum, and have the same type of camera you have purchased. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php

Too bad you don't have hummingbirds Saeed. That high frame rate would take some very interesting photos of them in flght around a feeder. Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I stand corrected. However one still have to use the correct lenses to match the 1:3 crop factor.

Well, any hope of trying this camera have gone out of the window. A friend is travelling to the far east, and has asked to borrow it. I am taking the Nikon D40X to the Seychelles, with the 28-200 VR and the 70-300 VR Nikon lenses.

Hi Saeed - Congratulations on your new camera (that you can't use!). I just returned from a photo safari in Botswana and one guy was using two of the Mark3's and another guy was using one Mark3 and one Mark2n. There have been some serious focusing problems with the Mark3's but these 3 cameras were doing ok in focusing. The exception is what you already mentioned - when shooting a burst of frames, some were out of focus for no reason. We also looked at some of their images taken with ISO 1600 and they were very good. No noise at all. Have fun in the Seychelles. Cindy
