What's the best tripod for the travelling hunter/nature photographer?

For still photos I like the 5 section Manfrotto Modo Tripod. Around $150?
Great for compact cameras, but it's not heavy duty enough for really big lenses, .
Mines gone on "loan" so I guess I'll have to buy another one, I'm using my girls rotten Camlock or Camlink or whatever and it's doing my head in trying to use it.

The gorilla pods and stuff like are OK but I don't think you can do without a proper Tripod.
The heaver and more expensive the better, but it's what your prepared to lugg around.

Just saw one £42 on Amazon so I'm happy.
Ordered the Maxi Mod.785B for £54.
They are a bit flimsy but not bad for the price.

That Modo is a really neat "tripod" (actually it's more of a flexible support)! On my wish list now!

I second the statement for a heavier camera you need a heavier tripod.

After doing a little research, it seems there is a company called Feisol which makes a good carbon fiber legged tripod at a much better price than the well known manufacturers such as Gitzo. I'm tending toward a model 3401 or a 3402 tripod. Anybody have any experience with these?

Haven't seen them over here yet, but they look good on the website.
With a head $350 is not too bad for semi pro gear.

I went ahead and ordered the CT-3441SB from the Feisol website. When it arrives I'll let everyone know what I think. Photography forums give them a thumbs up.

I ordered my tripod on 11 May factory direct, and it arrived from Taiwan today, 15 May. That is fast since I only paid the standard shipping rate of $33 to France.

I can now honestly say that I think the Feisol CT-3441SB is the best value in a compact tripod on the market. $400 including ball head (or $300 without), for a compact yet solid carbon fiber tripod which can collapse to under 17", is the best deal out there on a well made product. WITH the ball-head it only weighs 3 pounds and it has a load capacity of 15 pounds.
