After two trips to Africa, my Canon D30 has accumulated some dust on the sensor.

What can I do to clean it? Is there somewhere I can send it to have it cleaned?

Many of the local camera stores (not box electronic stores) offer an SLR Cleaning service. Ask them if they are certified by Canon to do so (many of them are.) If they are certified, then their work is warranted. Otherwise you can decide if they are a competent enough to risk.(your personal choice) I believe Ritz Cameras offers this service. I recommend you talk to the individual who actually will do the work. Always makes me feel better to talk face to face with an individual who is going to work on my stuff before I hand it over.

My brother cleans his own SLRs (he is a photographer). I don't know how he does it and I don't want to risk misleading someone with a "how to" post on the subject. Especially when doing it wrong can ruin the sensor.

At any rate I recommend you get it cleaned SOON! The longer junk stays in there the higher the chance it will cause permanent damage. My brother cleans his after every major field trip that involves lens swapping in the field. Let me emphasize leaving the dust in there can turn out to be more than an annoyance if left too long.

As an aside, though I truly appreciate the fabulous photos SLRs are capable of. The swapping of lenses in the field makes them somewhat vulnerable. I tote my Canon Powershot S3 (or S2) everywhere with much less fear. Those or the Canon G#s are great backups or field cameras.

If you ever take off your lense you'll need to deal with dust.
I do a lot of film scanning and it is a pain.
do a search for info

If you have a pic that needs dust removal, here's a good easy program for that.

Thanks for the help. After doing some research, I have decided to try and clean it myself. I have purchased some some cleaning products from Copper Hill Images. I will let you know how they turn out.
