I'm looking for a new digi camera. My needs are: Pocket size, point & shoot, min of 10x zoom. I was looking at Panasonic Lumix DMCTZ5K. It has a Lecia lens. Any info on this one or others?

Call cameraland and ask to speak to Dougs brother, he is the camera expert! Phone # 212-753-5128. I was looking for my wife a new camera at Wal-mart the other day and thought about Doug at cameraland so called him and he put me in touch with his brother. Any way ordered my wife a new camera while standing in Wal-mart looking at theirs. Got a new Leica 1200 range finder from them a couple weeks ago too. They are good to deal with and will help you with the price if they can. God Bless, Louis

I have been happy with my Sanyo Zacti which is always on my side and also takes film.

I have been using the Canon IXUS pocket cameras now for several years, and love them.

Most of the photos you see on my hunt reports are taken with these.

I currently use the IXUS 870 IS. I always carry one in my pocket.

It also takes very good VGA resolution vieos - that is better than VHS tapes.

With a 16GB memory card in it, you can take 3 hours of video or several thousand pictures.

Saeed's right on, of course. I use a Canon SD850-IS and have found it to be very nice. You won't get the 10x zoom in one, but it takes great pics. I also like the fact that it has an optical viewfinder as well as the LCD screen. For the big zoom in a quality camera you'll probably be looking at a larger format than a pocket camera.

I like all the features of the Canons, and am seriously considering one myself. However, I have a problem with their long flash recharge. With 2 very mobile kids you don't often have 10 seconds to wait for the next flash cycle. Are you guys aware of a decent camera with 10x zoom, image stabilization, and a decent flash recharge time?

Thanks,
Troy

Sadly, no.

You will always get lag time between flashes with a pocket camera.

You can only avoid that with a SLR.

Of, then it is not pocketable.

That's pretty much what I suspected. There's just not a practical way to get a fast recharging internal flash, is there?

It appears that the Canon S5IS accepts the SpeedLite series of external flashes. Do you guys have any experience with that model? I have a SpeedLite flash (a 420EX I believe) that I've used on my Rebel 35mm that should work. That would alleviate the problem for indoor rapid action shooting with the kids and still provide a relatively portable camera (sans flash) for hunting/travel.

The S5is is not much of a pocket camera.Sort of a mini SLR shape. That and the new G10 are what Canon considers "advanced compacts".

Along with those are the SX 100IS,which I have. Its like a plump compact. It has 10x zoom.I'm happy with the extra zoom and like almost all Canon products.

The up side is it takes AA,and doesn't require a proprietary battery....

The only down side is it eats batteries more than I would like in general.....not a bad price though and still compact enough for a larger pocket....
