Anybody ever heard of a trap called Wolfangle that is designed for wolves in Germany & Austira?

I sure would like to see a photo or understand the concept behind it.

Hey Norseman,

it is actually called "Wolfsangel" and would mean something like "Fishing Rod for Wolves". A rather ancient and pretty cruel concept that was used for centuries to decimate wolves. And yes, it seems to have been invented in Germany.

The way it worked was that you fix the trap in the lower branches of a tree with the baited hook hanging just high enough so that the wolf had to jump to reach the bait. When he did, he was hooked in the fang and eventually died hanging a few feet above the ground. As I said, not exactly a 330 Conibear-type-of-kill. Needless to say, not in use any more.

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfsangel

Interesting enough, the sign of the Wolfangel is still very present in German sigils.

Hope that helped, take care.

Thank you for the information and link.

Are you aware of any spring loaded treble hook wolf traps from Germany or Austria?
