The Drudge Report for 13 June had a blurb taken from an English source which noted someone was advocating literally bulldozing failing communities in rusted out industrial areas and letting things go natural.

In fact this is happening in Detroit. Someone noted a couple weeks ago that a lot of wildlife native to the region is now inhabiting empty run down housing and neighborhoods and some impromptu hunting is going on. Someone at a shotgun site confirmed the fact.

I have no great love for phony ticky-tacky suburbia and the mall sprawl. It would be nice to see cities with towered walls and gates, heavy industry, and peasant towns with three field farming nearby. And lotsa open territory for good stuff like rifle ranges.

You want us to go back to the Medieval Ages? rotflmo The drawback would be we'd have to leave the "good Life" we've got used to, behind as well

Saw a thing on tv, a few months ago, showing reclaimed suburbs in, I believe it was Detroit. Even showed the first beaver to move back into some waterway. Somehow, I don't think this bodes well for our society.

That was Detroit. I don't know if you have problems with urban sprawl up your way but we are destroying huge quantities of land with garbage construction much of which is mallburbs and ticky tacky same-old-thing shopping centers. These are populated by urban refugrees trying to get away from the cities and their barbarian minority populations and local dictators (Chicago's Mayor Daley).

Down here there is a better chance of getting a mix of civilization and country as all were close together not too long ago. I know that living in igloos up north and having to endure ravenning hordes of migratory killer cannibal penguins can make life iffy. And if the twelve-team of moose can't get the plow out of the ice, that can make getting the spring crop of kohlrabi planted a bit hard. But there has to be a middle ground and it seems to be devloping here with this decay. Now if we could just drive the hordes of illegal aliens into the seas and feed 'em to giant squid we would be happy. Plenty of room for hunting, skeet and trap, small airports for homebuilt aircraft, etc. That is my idea of ol'timey living. I do have an orchard in a side lot and I'm fending that in while expanding it. Tha's my bit of country. I hit suburban ranges for shotgun shooting.
