Does anybody have any experiance with this rifle in a 44mag. If so what would be your chosen load for close range Black and grizzly defense. In Canada we cant carry handgunsand I get tired of packing a rifle with me and often leave it in the truck. Not such a great idea in my line of work. The Ranchhand is my best option as it will fit in my day pack. I have been seeing those offered for sale and for the life of me could not figure out just why?? You seem to have the perfect application since handguns are not available to you. 44Mag in that configuration is certainly better than rifle in the truck.

Not the rifle for just anybody. For most people it will be a toy not so much a tool. For me it will be used daily and is better then a stick anyday. Mind you I am getting pretty good with a stick. Things get western quite regularly when running hounds on ornery lions and bears. Don't know about your Canadian regs but-- the USA it is classified a "pistol". http://www.rossiusa.com/produc...e=&breadcrumbseries= 12" barrel and under 26" overall DuggaBoye-O NRA-Life Whittington-Life TSRA-Life DRSS DSC HSC SCI

I agree with the poster about it being classified as a pistol. My choice would be the carbine version with the 16" barrel. I have one and it is very handy and very easy to shoot. I have shot the "mares leg" and find it not that easy to shoot accurately.

WOW, I hadnt seen one of those yet I guess. With one of those in my hand and a 45/410 "judge" on my hip I'd be ready for anything! I'd get a 16" barreled rifle and have something useable myself.

These guns have just been ok'd to come into Canada. Because they are factory made with a 12" barrel and are made to use with 2 hands they made an exception. The closes thing you can have to a hand gun, easy to pack and I would think more accurate then a hand gun as well. For myself if I kill an animal it will be a point blank anyways, I have plent of hunting rifles. Any load suggestions?? My carbine load is 19.0 gr H110 under a Cast Performance WFNHCGC 300gr. (May be hot for your gun) DuggaBoye-O NRA-Life Whittington-Life TSRA-Life DRSS DSC HSC SCI

Well Mr Canadian Hillibilly, in your case I would try some of the Federal 300gr Cast Core ammo. It feeds good through my Winchester Trapper 44 Mag Lever, so I think it would work in your Mares Leg. PS, IF I lived IN Canada, and if they are Legal, I would definately have a Mares Leg... Or Three. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
