Just picked up a old Savage 99 in fair condition. As far as I can tell it is a 1907 model, chambered in 303 Savage with a rotary mag. It has a marble arms peep sight tang mounted. It also appears rather on the old side,
Shells are way expensive for this thing, but dies can still be bought for reloading.

I saw some thing once that you could use 30 30 brass to make brass for the 303 but I just can't remember where I seen that at.

Graff & sons has brass

Yooper, nice nab! I have long coveted an early 99 in .303. Lots of brass out there these days, making it a very easy rifle to reload for.

I also was wanting one due to the stories my wife's father told about his dads. Is funny how a cartridge can become popular or just fade away to something from the past. After studying the ballistics I would be willing to bet it would be a popular round today if it had been chambered in a Winchester lever action 94 or marlin. May be even in some sort of Remington would have made it more popular today.

I swap around with Savage rifles, Its my inheritance, My family used them for years and passed that on to me..

They are such great rifles, well made, lots of hand fitting and no shortcuts up until the last few years, they were costly to build and the bean counters jumped in to save the day with short cuts, clips, and cheap workmanship, then as with most of the bean counters advise they went in bankruptcy and shame!

But they left a legacy that will go on for decades..I shot and old .303 in my youth for a year or so, and it was the full equal to my 30-30 but I eventually traded it off for a 99 in 25-35 and I liked it also..Today I have a couple of 99s, An old 99E in 250-3000 and a 99F (1950) in .308, they are my saddle and truck guns for the most part, and found a permanent home because they both shot exceptionally well.
