Anyone got a production dates book that can look up a few numbers for me?

Numrich lists below 2,700,000
between 2,700,000 & 4,580,000
and over 4,580,000 as changovers for certain parts... and I'm curious about approximatly when those changes occoured.

And lastly I just bought a reasonably clean '94
with Ser.No. 3,928,xxx and I'm curious when it was made...

Thanks!

Never mind the page for the older guns website

http://oldguns.net/sn_php/winmods.htm

FINALLY loaded after I left a browser window open loading the page overnight.

I can't imagine why they are so slow....

But in any event the 94 I just got was made in 1973

I have that little red book Allan and you are right about the year of manufacture, but it must have been pretty close to the end of that run! Cool derf

Derf,

so you are saying it was one of the last produced in calender year 1973?

Not that it really matters to me, I wanted a 30WCF
(I REFUSE to call it by the cartridge's MARLIN name)
in the original arm chambered for the cartridge

Don't get me wrong, I think in general that the marlin 1893/1936/36/336/336A is a superior (and simpler design)
but it isn't a winchester.
If I were looking for a 35Rem or 38-55 lever gun I'd certainly buy a marlin.

And I think I just about stole this one for the $199.90
asking price. It cleaned up real well after detail stripping
and I of course had to extend the barrel slot slightly
(as you almost always do) to reinstall the foreend band
screw and relieve tension between the barrel, screw and foreend that was forcing the mag tube to twist to one side under the barrel (30 seconds with a round file)

I need to aquire the proper lever pin stop screw, because this rifle had a scope "side mount" on it which I want to remove, the other two screws used to hold the mount to the receiver are in the factory holes for the receiver sight.

Since I plan on using a receiver sight the fact that the plug screws are gone doesn't bother me....

And though I'd LOVE to have a Redfield or Lyman STEEL
receiver sight an aluminum Williams would be consistant with the rest of the rifle...

Good luck with your new winchester , i myself got one two years ago for #200- mine was manufactured in 1963 its in excellant condition, and although i handload she just loves those winchester 170 gr. silver tip factory loads. I to put on a williams receiver sight. When i go woods roaming or scouting she's the one i grab . Light and handi . Later Tanoose

Now I'm really pleased...

I finally seperated the "unknown" steel tube scope from the Kwik-Site side mount and started to clean it up...

After cleaning 30 years of accumulated dust off of the lenses I discover it is a duplex reticle.
Then cleaning the crud off the body of the scope discover that I have in my hands a near pristine Made-in-USA Weaver K4-1 4x scope...

Now, I don't want a scope on a 30-30 that I don't actually intend to Deer hunt with, though I did buy the winchester as a Hunter/shooter/plinker, what I want it for is to hunt feral pigs, but I've long wanted an appropriate period type scope for my 1972 Marlin 1895... (and get rid of that damned 2.5x20 Bushnell that's on it now)

The total deal on this $199 winchester is seeming sweeter by the minute...

Now, to see if I can get $10-$15 for the scope mount on ebaySmiler
