I finally completed my 336 SS pistol grip to straight grip conversion. The only other "upgrade" that I have done so far is to install a WWG trigger, but I have always intended to cut down the barrel to 16" when I did the conversion. It shoots LeverEvs very well, and I am afraid that I will lose accuracy if I have it cut down. The scope is an OLD Burris 4x that my Dad had on my first Marlin 25 years ago and is in Talley rings. Any suggestions on how to "improve" my gun would be appreciated.

I would consider one of those matt black teflon coatings such as Nylite.

Very nice Jeff i always liked the straight stock on a lever action over the pistol grip. Did you do the work yourself or did you send it to Marlin. My nephew is just the opposit in that he likes the pistol grips over the straight stocks and he wanted to have the guide gun converted to pistol grip but didn't want to pay the $250.00 that marlin gets for the conversion.

Tanoose I traded parts with a guy that wanted a pistol grip guide gun and put it together myself. I am not a gunsmith, but Marlins are pretty simple to work on. I didn't know what Marlin would charge for the conversion, but I was going to call them to see if the trade hadn't worked out. I love the way the conversion turned out, but it would not be worth $250 to me. What is crazy is that they charge half what the entire gun costs for a couple of parts. I really believe if Marlin would do a "special run" of straight grip stainless 30-30's that the demand would be incredible, but evidently it is not going to happen.
