I went on my first elk hunt the last week of Oct in Pagosa Springs, CO. I took my Marlin Cowboy loaded with 405 gr LBTs doing about 1900fps. Seven hours into my hunt on Saturday morning I came across a bull raking a tree about 40yds away. The peep sights worked great. I hit him in the neck and he went end over end. Nice 6x6 with good mass. The bullet went through the neck and it looks like very little if any expansion based on the size of the exit hole in the hide. The guys at camp were pleased but a little miffed. This was their 7th year and they had only taken 1 bull 2 years ago between 4 hunters. I show up and in seven hours kill the biggest bull they had ever seen and with an iron sight lever action. I would rather have luck than skill any day.

Don't ya love it when it when it works out... I arrived in our mule deer camp with an old m94 src in 32 spcl made in 1912...the guys eyed me like I'd smoked my lunch or something, asked me what that "thing" was for? I told them "deer killing" and proceded to drop a nice forked horn on opening morning right outa the gate! It took them 3 days to get their first one one the ground, two more days to get another. All of them came around and wanted to handle the old gun and peer thru the sights.
Fun hunt!
