The other day ,I got a hankerin for a 30/30. been awhile since I had one. Now being a certified rifle loony , not just any 30/30 would do. I looked on the web all over , at cabell'a , bass pro , and a bunch of collectors sites , and made a couple phone calls. I was really high on a model 64 delux I found at a cabella's in minnisota. And another similar rifle nicly restored here in portland. A few 94s I saw that were bought in a lot from a prison were kind of interesting , but most had had one part or another changed out at some time. I went to a local gunshow and was tempted to buy an eastern carbine , but passed mostly beacuse the sight was changed out. On my way home I stoped at a shop and found another eastern carbine in very sound condition and all origional. Curved steel but plate , ladder site and a factory option revolving front site with 3 different beads. Quite cool, the serial number dates my new carbine from 1928. I was very glad to find that it fed a box of old hand loads I had on hand from a previous rifle like butter, as they would not feed in the one I last had. And when compared to the ones I saw online this old winchester was a steel at 650.00 I,ll take picture soon ...tj3006 freedom1st

An eastern carbine is an unoficial name for an older model 94 without a saddle ring. They also have a slighty longer for stock. As I undersatnd it winchester marketed eastern carbines only in the eastern part of the US. Hence the name. Truth be known, I rather like the saddle rings, but I will likly be adding one to my collection either in the 94 or 92 winchester. ...tj3006 freedom1st
