Hey guys, Found a box of 18 loaded 45/70 I have, I believe they're 300g remingtons (I don't have them in front of me). Problem is, they were loaded for my no.3, and I only have a Marlin 45/70 now, they're a grain or two above the top of the 1895 load data, but still low on the Ruger load data (from my OLD Lyman book). Loads are with 3031, 62g IIRC. Here is my question, I know people are wary of shooting other peoples loads, do I offer these for free to anybody with a Ruger that wants to shoot them or just dump them in the trash? I don't have a bullet puller that big and it's frankly not that much $ worth of ammo I just don't normally dump something shootable if I can help it. Thoughts? If you have a reloading press and the right shell holder, put them in the pree and stick them up thru the empty die hole. Find a set of pliers that fits the bullet well, grab the bullet above the die station and lower the ram. You'll mess the bullet up a bit but can still be used for plinking loads (and you can weigh it too). You'll salvage the case, powder and primers. A reloading bench w/o an inertial bullet puller is incomplete.

Just purchase a Kinetic Bullet Puller. Bought mine from Dillon several years ago. SAFELY removes bullet with virtually no damage to the bullet other than what occurred during the original seating and crimping. Also powder is saved for reuse ONLY IF YOU ARE SURE WHAT POWDER IT IS!!!!!

I'm sure the powder, I tape and write it on my boxes usually, I have a kinetic puller too, the kind that looks like a hammer, but I don't think it opens large enough for 45. I'll check it though, I'm wrong sometimes this could be one of them. Thanks guys. You can take your shell holder for the 45/70 and insert cartridge, place in "hammer type" puller, screw cap on and takes the place of one of those spring loaded jaws. Slow, but it works. Jus a suggestion.

I have a RCBS inertial bullet puller. You can pull 45-70s as follows. Remove the cap and the collet. Insert the loadded round into the puller put the collet on TOP of the rim Screw on the cap rap it and it will work fine

I got them all pulled. My inertia puller has the collet that is three pieces with a rubber band around them, I was able to stetch it around the case and just fit it in. Worked like a champ. I adjusted the load to 51.7 (book lists as 1700fps) and reloaded them all last night. worked out fine. got another 60+ pieces of 45/70 primed and ready to charge and seat bullets. I'm going through all my reloading stuff and loading up ammo. I figure why have the components just sitting there, better to have stuff on hand to shoot. Thanks guys.
