At 100yds I have to aim at the bottom of the target to hit near the center. The sights are the standard ones. I put the front bead just at the bottom of the V and aim well under the 8" black circle on the target to hit the bulls eye. The rear sight is set all the way down. I have been told that I need a taller front sight. Marlin states that the guns are factory sighted at 100yds. Am I doing something wrong.

Did you buy the rifle new? I had to put a higher front sight on mine to make the williams peep sight work.If I was to get rid of the rifle I would probably keep the peep sight and the next owner would have the same issues. If you bought it used someone may have changed it up. If you bought it new, then other posters here may be of help. Bob

it would also be of help to know what chambering the gun is in and what ammo you are shooting. For example; a 45/70 shooting factory remington 405's at 1100 fps is going to hit a much different spot than 300 grain handloads at 2200 fps.

The rifle is new. It's a 30-30. Factory 150gr and my reloads are the same. I have really considered putting a wide angle fixed power scope on it but that would be my last resort. I have looked around with no luck on buying a taller front bead. Thanks much for the help.

You definetly need a taller front sight. Check with Brownell's. They probably have what you need in a Marbles sight. As a last resort try taking the elevation step slide out of the rear sight, that will allow it to drop a bit lower, lowering your point of impact. JJK

If the gun is shooting high then you need a HIGHER front sight as that lowers the barrel or a LOWER rear sight. High front sight lowers POI (Point of impact on target) Lower front sight raises the POI A rear sight goes up for raising the POI and goes down to lower the POI Taller front sights are available from most gunsmith or you can order them on line from Brownells.
