I threw fiscal common sense to the wind and bought myself a Christmas present, a Marlin XLR in .45-70. I've had Marlins in the standard barrel and with the long cowboy barrel, but this one just feels "right." Now to dig out the bag of assorted handloads and see what it likes. The fluted bolt sure makes this thing smooth.

I did the same thing only I went with the 308 express cal. Its a sweet shooting gun I took it out last week and didn't see anything to shoot with it. I cant wait to try the new cal. on a deer we have 12 more days of rifle season so surely I will get a chance to try it out. The charts show it right there with the 308 win. and out of a lever gun I shot a lever action a lot and really liked it before the magnum bug bit and went to bolt guns.
