I feel that a 2-7 leupold or a 1-4 leupold would be about ideal for a 30/30. I sold my win 94 30/30 but I have a heap of brass for it and sometimes I feel a 30/30 marlin would be good....I did not like the rifle that is why I got rid of it.

In your price range, I'd pick the Weaver V3. I have one mounted on the .35 Rem. 336 and am very pleased with it.

I bought a Weaver K 2.5 for around $106.00 from Natchez and am really pleased with it. I think the Weaver's are overlooked and are one of the best deals around.

MIne has a Leupold VX-I 2-7 power scope. Works well and is economical.

A Leupold 2.5x Compact will do every you need to do with a 30/30 and might just meet your budget. Good hunting! McB

It's a 30/30, ya don't need a variable on a 30/30. A straight 4X is great so is a Weaver 3 or even a 2.5X. You can buy a better quality fixed power for the same money you spend on a cheap variable. Go check out e-bay for an old ElPaso steel weaver, or a 4X Redfield, these older scopes are still good, and will work great on a 30/30

I agree, get a 2.5x or 3x fixed, that all the scope that caliber can utilize and the idea or a short lever gun is compactness and easy handling...A big scope ruins the pudding... I have a 22 mm tube Leupold Alaskan 2.5x in Talley QD with a Talley slide on peep in reserve on my Marlin straight grip 30-30, and it is sleek and pretty and very effective up to even 300 yards...

I concurr with the guys who recommend a plain old straight 4 power scope. I have a 4 X Weaver on one of my 30/30s Marlins, a matt black one on a stainless steel receiver and barreled 30/30 Marlin. I also have a 6 x on a Winchester 94 Legacy, but that rifle usually gets a 125 gr Speer HP load in it. It has a 24 inch barrel and that is not overkill with my sloppy eye site. Often overlooked but makes a real nice scope for a 30/30 is a low profile Weaver 4 x or 2 x 7 with a 28 mm objective, their rim fire scopes. Weaver indicates that they are designed to take the recoil of a center fire rifle. Their parallax is set at 50 yds, which is great for a 30/30 and their profile being small and 28mm, makes it a great fitting scope on the 30/30. I carried one for 2 seasons on a 30/06 Winchester featherweight and was shooting 220 grain loads, that were hotter than factory,. and they did a great job. Cheers and Good shooting seafire
