Winchester Side Scope Mount

I have a Winchester M-71 that was long ago drilled for a side scope mount. (If it were not already drilled I would not be asking this question!) Has anyone used this scope set-up? Does the scope have to be mounted extreamly high? (I prefer a lower mount) Can you get sufficient eye relief? Thanks for looking and ANY input would be appreciated!

If it is the same one I am familiar with, it is a side mount that allows the scope rings to be mounted offset or over the receiver. For lever actions, it allows one to use the Williams (or other) receiver mount peep sights AND a scope. I have the Williams brand side mount and a set of rings, but I haven't (and probably won't) gotten around to installing it.

Pitdog,
Thanks for your observations. What were you going to use the side mount on? If you are not going to mount it and it would fit my M-71 would you want to sell it?? Let me know your thoughts....
