Hector, they make the same rifle in 454 Casull. So +P loads would be just fine.I have no idea what the velocity would be.Good luck,OB

Yes, it will handle high pressures. 1500 to 1800 fps are reachable. Santa Lee Landers

Hector, do a search for Paco Kelly articles, he tends to push things, but still good info. Ross Seyfried had an article on the 45 colt, and found Federal 45 colt brass to be the strongest brass of any type he ever used. I've kept my eye out for a Rossi in 45 colt for some time now. I have one in 480 Ruger, and thought a 45 colt would be nice to join it!

I just checked, typed in Paco Kelly 45 colt and got a lengthy article with a variety of loads.

I have one. The Winchester 92 is a strong design, really a stronger design than the 94, especially with modern steel. It handles my heavy 45 colt loads (300 grain WFN over 23 grins of H110) with no issue. Extraction is easy and accuracy is very good. Mine even feeds SWC cast bullets as well as factory RNFPs. I bought mine to replace my old Marlin 45-70 as a meat packing rifle, something to have in hand when I'm packing out moose or caribou. Light, handy, accurate and powerful. I use Starline brass almost exclusively now for everything from 32 H&R to 500 Linebaugh. It's strong and consistent. theback40 if you ever want to sell that 480 Rossi let me know. In fact I'd trade my 45 Colt Rossi toward it if you're seriously looking for one. "...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." I bought my Rossi for using heavy cast bullets, 300 grain. I lapped the barrel, polished the trigger, installed a Lyman receiver sight. I tested the I'm not sure if it's a Lyman or Redding 300 gain cast bullet mold. I got excellent accuracy with 20 grains of H110, never saw the need to go beyond that. Good luck with yours and have fun. "Whensoever the General Government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force." --Thomas Jefferson

Mart, I was thinking, in addition too, not instead of! If I hear of one, or decide to get rid of mine, you'll have first dibs.

they make the same rifle in 44 magnum so they will take those loads. the 454's and 480's are a bit different. I treat my 44/45 as the same guns only one takes a 10gr heavier bullet. the 20" barrel will go fast enough you won't like the recoil no problem. I have hit 1650 in my 24" barrels with alliant's 2400 without even trying, H-110 should get you there in the 20. I don't shoot that load for hunting I back it down to using 9.5grs. of unique and a softer cast bullet. it's IMO/IME more effective on game, and I don't give up any range.

I have been convinced by the vitudes that you have expressed about the Rossi M92 in caliber .45 LC and I contacted the gunshop to buy it. Big was my surprise when I was informed that I had 16" barrel. What speed can I reach in short barrel, with bullets (cast or jacketed) of 250 to 300 grains? Thanks in advance, Hector
