Hi: I´m 57 year old now and really is dificult to me to shoot confidently with open sights . What do you think on mount some kind of optic sight on a Browning 1886 . Is there some mount that you coul use without drilling the action? Thank you very much Gtrotz

The only ones I've seen are the scout type ones where a mount is fitted to the barrel forward of the receiver.

You should try a receiver sight. It is a peep sight rear configuration. It definately helps old eyes see the sight picture. I've recommended it to a shooting friend who's done it to their 86 and their 95. Made a huge improvement in their shooting. I'm not far behind you, and will probably install a receiver sight on my own 86 if I draw an elk tag next year. It's fun getting older, isn't it? Here's a link to Lyman's page on the rear sights. They're fully adjustable, and work with your existing front sight. Lyman receiver sight Look about half way down the page... Si tantum EGO eram dimidium ut bonus ut EGO memor

I would imagine a red dot or a similar sight could be mounted directly in front of the reciever. It might require a special base be made but would think that reasonably easy to do. Would not be the most attractive place to put one but would certainly work. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

Thanks for all your answers, I didn´t reply because I went in a hog hunt for two days. I ask here to a friend who owns a rifle with a peep sight and says me that when the light goes down you see worst than with an open sight. What do you think about this Gtrotz

If you take the disk insert out the remaining "ghost ring" aperture is big enough to use at least as long as the open sights. During the day the longer sight radius makes for a more accurate and quicker to use combination. If you're super-serious about an optical sight but don't want a scout scope you might have a 'smith make mount for the rear dovetail that will hold one of the small holographic red dot sights. Do let us know if you try this approach... BTW How was your pig hunt?

Well: I found a Lyman tang sight, the problem is that in the Browning you have to gunsmith the installation because the rifle has only one screw , but I put it with only that screw so I could shot and see what hapends. Sincerelly Gtrotz
