Anybody done one?

Made there 450 Marlin into a 450 AK or Improved?

You get 14 grains of water increase, 74 to 88.

All you need to do is rebate the AK rim to .532

The BLR already has WSM mags.....just in case you need one.

Would be really nice if they had a 500 cal. bbl. that could easily be made into a 50 B&M Alaskan.

Next best is the 450 AK......

Or a 458 WSM?

And it would need to be the Takedown model.....cause that one comes apart for easy access for reaming! Smiler

The .325 WSM without a scope to add weight comes back at you with a reasonable amount of enthusiasm. Other than the great bears, I'm not sure there's a hunting target for this conversion. I'll also point out that the short action BLRs feel much better than the long action models; at least to me.

That said, feel free to go for it. Need isn't really an important factor in these types of projects.

Check with Bill73. He has a lot of large-bore leverguns.

I do have a few big bore lever guns,475 Turnbull,450 Alaskan x2,416/348 improved,348 Ackley improved,348 win,45-90 Win,45-70,454 Casull & 480 Ruger, apart from the last two? they are all on the win 71 or the 1886 models, but apart from killing a few pigs & warthogs,I have not had the chance to try these guns on big game yet,our very own crshelton is the man with experience in the field,he has done some impressive hunts with his 405 win & 45-90,if you go & use the search function on this forum, you will find a wealth of information, punch in the 416 for ex,& it will bring bring up a lot of old threads on this subject, best of luck.

I know Ken Greenley (Bigdoggie2bore), rest his soul, was having a BLR converted to 458 Lott. Don't know whatever became of it since his passing.

I once shot a light weight Lott of the bench six times it rang my bell & it hasn't stopped ringing yet,the BLR is a light gun!

The long action BLR is factory chambered for the .300 WinMag, so you've got at least 3.34" oal and 2.62" case length.

Like I mentioned earlier, handle both the long and short action BLRs side by side before you buy the long action. You may even like the long action better; you never know.

Another poster here simply lengthened the throat of his BLR in 450 and used mags for the 325 WSM. This allows a LOA increase up to 2.8". Those mods are cheap and would likely provide as much a performance increase as you are likely to want in such a light rifle.

You could always have the chamber reamed for a WSM later if you wanted more. As mentioned the takedown version would be the best one to use.
